Get Audition Ready 2016

We are a bit behind in getting this posted, but we had a wonderful summer camp this year! All of our campers made huge strides in getting audition monologues, songs, resumes and head shots ready to go for their next audition! Keep your eyes open for our next one!

Studio Recital 2016

Last weekend we had our first recital since moving into our new space in October. It was an incredible day filled with friends, family and performers. We are so proud of all of our students who had the courage to get up and perform! Our students work so hard all year long, this is a chance for them to share with friends, family and each other the growth they are making.

The Workshop

The Workshop is a reoccurring event that will happen once a month on Tuesdays from 7:00-8:00pm. This is a chance for our students and community members to bring in music and monologues and try them out in front of peers and gain feedback from two respected instructors. These can be works in progress or performance-ready pieces!

Second Saturday Music Makers

SECOND SATURDAY MUSIC MAKERS IS A REOCCURRING MONTHLY EVENT for 2016!

Join us and reconnect with your inner kid! Second Saturday Music Makers is a music and movement gathering for adults. We sing, dance, play music games and just have fun making music with no expectations. People of all musical backgrounds and abilities are welcome. If you have your own instruments or songs you love, feel free to bring them!

This event gives adults a chance to just make music and have fun. This is NOT a performance group - all we ask is that you love making music and are willing to be a little silly! Things you might experience - traditional songs from summer camp, canons/rounds, drum circles, call and response, spontaneous dance sessions, random harmonies to nonsense songs...and so much fun!

Gatherings will usually be on the second saturday of the month with a few exceptions for holidays etc. Donations are accepted but not required.

Introducing our Studio!

2015 brought a huge change for us with the addition of our new professional space. A few of you have been with us since our humble beginnings of teaching in our living room in a tiny apartment, to our move to a larger apartment with a spare room to serve as the studio, to now having our own building to make music in.
We are so excited to be on this journey together!

Things to notice:
  • Danielle and Lacey no  longer have to share a studio. They each have their own and can teach at the same time!
  • We have a self-serve Keurig machine and juice in the fridge - Please help yourself!
  • Magazines are available to read on the shelf under the printer while you wait
  • Check out and send in photos for our "Wall of Fame" above the printer
  • You can read about local events on our cork board located in the entryway - Bring in your own events to post, too!
  • We also have a large room for our group classes - Mini Melodies and introducing our new group session called "The Workshop"

Happy 2016!

Wishing everyone a happy and healthy 2016!

We have had a wonderful 2015 that has brought us a fantastic new studio space, many great new students and new adventures. We are looking forward to a 2016 with a few new programs and adventures to share with all of you as we continue to grow! Thank you all for making Lyrics and Melodies studio a place that we love to be!

Music Man and the busy studio!

Many of our voice and piano students have been extremely busy the past few months preparing for the San Luis Obispo Little Theatre's presentation of The Music Man. Our studio has been filled with the sounds of "Goodnight My Someone," "76 Trombones"and "The Wells Fargo Wagon."

In addition to so many of our wonderful students taking part in this show, piano teacher Lacey is starring in it! She even gets to play piano onstage with one of her actual piano students, Serafina, how cool is that?

This is a show you do not want to miss! To support your fellow students and Mrs. Lacey go to the SLO Little Theatre's website to purchase tickets at http://slolittletheatre.org/ or call the box office at (805) 786-2440. Shows are already selling out so don't wait!!!

Busy week!

It has been a busy week here in our little music studio!

Ms. Lacey's piano students have been swashbuckling pirates for the past three weeks and oh what fun we've been having with our pirate practice challenges! With fun crew names like "Peg-Leg Peggy", "Killer Keani", and "Jewel-Thief Julie", students have been memorizing measures, composing sea shanties, and collecting doubloons like true sea-worthy bilge rats! But who will be the swarthiest pirate of the oceans to earn the most doubloons and their very own treasure cheast? Will it be "Estrella Roja Haley"? "Admiral Abby"? "Nautical Naya"? "Island Iza"? "Seadog Sonja"??? Only one week remains and students are one challenge away from finding the loot!

"Map-Hunter Matteo" composes his pirate tune

Ms. Danielle's voice students have been working on their skills and trying new things with their voices. Used to singing with a country-pop twang? Try singing opera! Used to belting out Broadway? Try a lyrical ballad! Several voice students auditioned for "The Music Man" at San Luis Obispo Little Theatre. Congratulations to all of them for facing their fears and working hard on an audition piece! We look forward to hearing about casting after March 13th.

Interactive "Create Your Own Opera" on KUSC.org

While donating to the last classical So.Cal. radio station 99.7FM - KUSC, I came across a link for a "Create Your Own Opera" game. The interactive page was so much fun, I spent over twenty minutes playing on it! This page is awesome and had everything a parent or teacher needs to introduce the concepts and vocabulary of Opera (and Musical Theatre!) Go "backstage" and learn about different voice types, stage direction, and theatre terms, then run your own production of "Hansel and Gretel"!

Give the page a visit and bring out your inner Diva/Divo!

P.S. If you don't listen to 99.7FM - KUSC, you should! They play classical music all day EVERY DAY. KUSC provides an excellent resource for life-enriching music.
Enjoy!
